Operational activities - Is responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of the sales forecast for the assigned articles and categories.
- Analyses and cleanses the historic sales information in order to build a proper basis for the forecasting activity.
- Generates the statistical forecasts for the short, mid and long terms (till next 52 weeks).
- Forecasts the sales in case of New Product Introduction
- Calculates and fine tunes the promotional uplift with the other functions (e.g. Category Managers) in order to forecast the promotional sales.
- Analyses the results for regular assortment, promotional articles and future events.
- Manages the exceptions generated by the forecasting tools, clusters & focus on the key relevant assortment (High rotating articles, new articles, lumpy articles, seasonal articles, new trend, promotion, competition, top customers, etc.) and takes action in order to resolve them, eventually with the support of other functions.
- Ensure a proper aggregation & reconciliation of the forecast at all levels (article, category, store, time) both in unit and value.
Continuous improvement - Signals opportunities for improvement and takes action to work out and implement them:
- Analyses over the exceptions over time and proposes the appropriate actions to reduce them.
- Fine tunes the forecasting algorithms and parameters
Collaboration – Operates in strict contact with Category managers, Department/Store managers and Sales Force, in order to optimize the service to our customers:
- Acquires information about market related activities from the other functions of the company in order to support the forecasting: promotions, D&Rs, introduction of new articles.
- Enhances the forecast with the market information.
- Participates at the cross functional demand planning meetings in order to come to a consensus on sales expectations.
- Challenges the sales expectations from offer and operations based on a depth analysis of the historical sales.
- Contributes to share the order forecast/delivery plan with key suppliers in order they can further improve their performance (OTIF) and reduce our safety stock and logistic cost.

Makro is currently seeking a Demand Planner to join our team at the Head Office in Amsterdam. This role plays a key part in ensuring exceptional service delivery, and its main purpose is as follows: To provide an accurate customer demand forecast against the optimal cost.
Minimum of bachelor degree in Economy/Business Administration, Supply Chain
- Fluent in professional English and local languages
- High level of analytical thinking, data-driven decision making and attention to detail and accuracy with strong aptitude with retail math and forecasting methodology
- Advanced capability to use Microsoft Office package
- Profound knowledge of demand planning/sales forecast or S&OP
- Principle understanding of category management, sales operations
- Strong communication and facilitation & influencing skills
- Strong cross-functional collaboration. Capability to influence and facilitate the cross-functional decisions
- Ability to coordinate and integrate
- Ability to communicate
